For the past few days, I’ve been stuck in a rut where I can’t seem to get anything done. It’s one of those deadly cycles of convincing myself that if I do x, y and z, everything will be okay – I’ll feel better, and like a competent human being. Then, after getting myself overwhelmed and doing neither x, y nor z, I feel rubbish instead. Fun times! I mean, perhaps if I focused on completing JUST x, everything wouldn’t feel so mammoth and I could save myself from drowning in the sea of my unhealthy expectations?! Yes???
God, WHYYY do we do this to ourselves? I was talking to a friend yesterday and we both realised that we frequently tell other people to be kinder to themselves, all the while holding ourselves to almost impossible standards. I’m so over it.
I have no idea where I’m going with this – let’s be honest, I’m pretty much just having a moan right now, but, if you’re reading this, and you’re currently doing what I’m describing, just stop for a second. Breathe. You don’t have to get it all done today. One step at a time.
Now, if you could just take your own advice Kiran, that’d be great.
See you soon,
KMK
